The 8-year-old in me

“Yma, is this where Micky Mouse lives?” were the first words that came out of my mouth when I stepped out of our blue car in Disneyland-Florida’s parking lot in 1997. Like a lot of people, I don’t really remember the details of my life as an 8-year-old back then. Bs I remember that Disney Land felt like a place out of this world to me! It felt like…I don’t know.. heaven?

I remember asking my mom if she could take me to see Cindrella’s room in the big castle... that was a major Fail btw! Cuz obviously it wasn’t a real castle Lamoona -__- !! I also remember racing my brother and cousins to the actors in costumes thinking they were the real Disney characters....and I remember standing in line for hours for a ride and then not getting in because I wasn’t tall enough! Pfffft!!

Why all the sudden reminiscing you ask? Well because a few days ago, my friend Lulu hosted a “girl’s game night” at her house. But it was no ordinary game night of scrabble, monopoly or pictionary. No no no nooo, it was a Disney themed game night.

One of girls had this DVD board game called scene It? – Disney edition. In this game, players had to answer trivia questions about Disney films. The questions were read from trivia cards, viewed on a monitor from an included DVD or based on clips from movies, TV shows and music videos.

It was by far, the most fun board game I have ever played in my life. I felt like I was an 8 year old again!! I didn’t realize how much I missed watching those Disney classics until that night… I also didn’t realize how my personality was affected by Disney’s fairy tales until that night.. and it wasn’t only me, all of my friends were having all sorts of flashbacks of their childhood Disney memories...

Anyway, i just read an awesome post on Nofe's blog and it got me inspired and excited about sharing my favorite and most memorable Disney movie songs and scenes =D so, are you ready? Here we go:

Movie: Mulan

Favorite song: I'll make a man out of you

Favorite Scene: Mulan’s hair cut. I mean c’mon, didn’t you want to cut your hair after watching Mulan cut her's with a sword? Ah that scene felt so empowering madri laish!

Movie: The Little Mermaid

Favorite Songs: Under the sea and kiss the girl

Favorite scene: Arial’s fork. Yes, the famous fork scene when Arial was sitting around a fancy dinner table at the castle and then she started combing her hair with the fork! I think every little girl tried this at home! LOL I absolutely love that scene!

Movie: Cinderella

Favorite songs: Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo and The Work Song

Favorite Scene: making Cinderella’s first pink dress. Omg!! After me and my cousins watched how the mice and birds sewed Cindrella’s dress for the ball, we went and bought one of those cheap sewing boxes because we wanted to make our own ball dresses -_-

Movie: Beauty and the Beast

Favorite songs: Be Our Guest, Something There and Tale as Old as Time

Favorite Scene: The beast's transformation. Beauty and the beast was by far my favorite Dinsey classic! I love every single scene in the movie.. One of my favorite scenes was the transformation when the beast turned into a handsome prince <3>

Movie: Alladin

Favorite songs: Prince Ali and A Whole New World

Favorite scene: Aladdin’s attempt at flirting with Jasmine on the balcony loool. Remember the scene when Alladin was trying sooo hard to win Jasmine over and then she told him to jump off the balcony? LOOL It’s the scene right before the legendary magic carpet song, “A whole new world.” LOVE THAT SCENE AND THAT SONG!!

Okaaaaaaay feeeee so maaaaaany scenes I love w it would be impossible to list them all here! Btw, ana mt2athra al7een after watching all the clips on youtube :’( I started downloading all the movies.. i wanna watch them all over again <3>

Disney has been a great source of beautiful, inspiring, touching, and cheering life lessons. The amazing filmmakers have taken us to magical places, from Neverland to Wonderland, Atlantica to Narnia. They made it possible for an 8-year-old living in Qatar to meet legends from American history, Greek mythology and the Arabian Nights...

I love you Dinsey world…. See you in a few months inshallah!

  1. Wow i know exactly what you mean! Disney is associated with so many people's lives that everyone has to have a fave movie or fave character that impacted them in one way or the other.
There's no doubt that Disney has added that "Magical" flavor to our lives. Those fictional and lovable characters that we can identify with or are dying to be friends with. Many of us has felt that especially when being in one of those Disney park where it makes you truly feel like an 8 years old and we need that sometimes to just be or act like "kids" again and Disney was defiantly the first to make that call that many people all around the world have answered.
Ps. I'm a fan so keep em coming! :)
